Unless you have been living under a rock this past week, news of the
NSA spying programs has made more headlines than Casey Anthony and Anthony Wiener combined. In this short time,
the leaker, Edward Snowden, has come forward, information on the NSA projects
PRISM and
BOUNDLESSINFORMANT have been disclosed, and even our Palestine-terrorizing ally Israel
has been named participatory in our domestic spying programs. Not only that, but it has recently come to light that U.S. citizens worried about
climate change or energy independence are effectively domestic terrorists worthy of being spied on. Through all this, the U.S. government has been
preparing cyber-weapons, and President Obama has
claimed this is necessary, provoking Germany to accuse the Obama Administration of
employing East Germany Stasi tactics.
ForwardProgressives contributor Manny Schewitz authored
an excellent article on this. Furthermore, the
Electronic Frontier Foundation has
started a petition against the NSA's domestic spying program. Plus, if the government has
nothing to hide, why is it angry a whistleblower invaded their privacy?
One hell of a week, huh? I think we all owe
someone an apology.
