HackThisSite.org News: SOPA/PIPA: Still A Danger

by: HackThisSite Staff, 12:12 am Sunday December 18th, 2011

On Friday, the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee closed the debate about SOPA ("Stop Online Piracy Act"), a legislative bill which would heavily censor the internet, not just for US citizens but for the entire world, effectively granting the US government the ability to digitally police the world.

For a while, it seemed this destructive legislation was tabled until January, but it has been recently released that discussions will again resume on Wednesday, December 21st. This is an incredibly strange maneuver, only going to show the force with which Hollywood lobby groups are attempting to ram this bill through without any real debate or chance to hear legitimate opposition.

Congress still needs to be alerted by its constituents (and even those outside of the US) that this law is dangerous and places far too much power in the hands of private industry. Act now and contact Congress, before the world loses the internet as it knows it.

We also strongly encourage our users to watch this video which, in approximately 20 minutes, fully details the very real concerns about SOPA and PIPA in an easy-to-understand format.
