Noob connecting on IRC

([msg=22541]see Noob connecting on IRC[/msg])

(as much as I hate being called a noob, lol)

I don't normally post a new topic, cause most questions have already been asked at some point, somewhere (including this one), but I need a little help.

I've never used IRC before, and I'm having some trouble. I read the post "Moo's account link error" and it hasn't helped me.

Code: Select all
!link neocontra
(moo/#help) You are not using a registered nickname

I tried:

Code: Select all
/msg NickServ HELP REGISTER

and read the response, but anything I try comes up with an error.

I'm using ircII on Ubuntu, and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Try:

/ns register nickhere passhere email@here

It should e-mail you a confirmation code to enter after it is registered. You then may !link your nick to your HTS account.

Two things:

1. Depending on your client, doing "/ns" might not work - it's just an alias for a longer command, "/msg nickserv". If "/ns" says invalid command, use "/msg nickserv" instead.

2. If you read the response to "/ns help register", you'll see it doesn't say to put the nick there. In fact, that'll make the registration fail, depending on the modules installed.

SO:
/msg nickserv register password [email]

example: /msg nickserv register omg1337pass fifty@email.com

Thank you.

But now I'm having trouble starting the missions. There's another thread on this, but it's locked. I'm having the same problem linking to !htb as that user was.

Code: Select all
> !link
(moo/#htb) You didn't specify wich HTS account you want to link your nickname too.
> !link neocontra
(moo/#htb) neocontra already linked too neocontra
> !link !htb
(moo/#htb) neocontra already linked too neocontra

(I know I did it wrong the first time...noob....lol)

I feel embarrassed asking this, but in the event of a lost password (thanks to my habit of making up impossible-to-guess/remember passwords), how would I recover it?

I tried /msg nickserv sendpass <nickname>.....but permission is denied.

Should I message someone about this, or just choose another nick?

Side note...shortening my name to "neo" isn't plausible, considering the number of people that would use that nick. I do have it registered, but I'd like my old nick back.
