Call for Staff - Security News

([msg=83780]see Call for Staff - Security News[/msg])

Some of you might remember that a little while back I started up a weekly security news release. We would love to get that project back up and running but we have been stretched pretty thin. That said we have decided to open a slot in our staff for anyone who might be interested in joining in on this project. This an opportunity to join our team as we push forward and continue to shape HTS.

Description of Duties:
You will be responsible for weekly (or bi-weekly) news summaries.
You will have flexibility on how this information is presented and you may brand it with your nic/avatar.
You will participate in staff meetings and will be a subject matter expert in larger political events (for example "fast lanes").
This is a volunteer position. Everyone here at HTS works on a volunteer basis.

Requirements:
Must be able to find and vet legitimate sources (no satire).
Somewhat fluent in English and can write clearly.
Possess some skill with an image editor.
Dedication.

How to Apply:
Contact mShred or myself if you are interested.
Applicants will be interviewed to determine eligibility.

"Drink all the booze, hack all the things."

Something tells me that this job is for more than one person, like a group of news collectors, an editor, and a designer for the final release.

Just an honest suggestion. :geek:

We're not starting a magazine, calm down. In all likelihood this will be very similar to the recent OWASP post - finding interesting content, providing some editorial comments, and possibly posing a question at the end to spark conversation.
Assume that everything I say is or could be a lie.

Man, if anything you need to calm down. Almost every time I see you, you're talking to me or somebody else in a tone that sounds hateful and rude.

Brony, correct me if I'm wrong, but Goatboy seems much more experienced than you, in terms of HTS forums and of CompSec as a whole.

It's not even about post count. It's about people taking shit way too seriously here. If I seem hateful or rude, then look at the messages I am replying to and ask if they are coming across as whiny, demanding, arrogant, or they're asking us to hack something.

Well, can you tell me if my message is whiny, demanding, arrogant, or asking you or other site members to hack something? I don't see my message as particularly whiny. I don't think I was being demanding because I was stating my opinion on the matter. I wasn't being arrogant because I wasn't enforcing my opinion or even insinuating that it was true. And, as far as I can see, I wasn't asking mShred or any other thread participant to hack something (though I could use a little more education on the workings of Twitter. There's a troll I'm dealing with).

I will not deny that Goatboy is more experience than me in most, if not all, areas of computers and computer sciences, but is that really an excuse to use a seemingly angry tone with other users, no matter how experienced or inexperienced they are?

i agree with this. Unless what I think I know about psychological is bullshit, a random single person isn't going to jump at the chance to commit themselves to this, especially with the requirements and application process.
This doesn't even have to be that big a deal. Just a casual community effort.

I stuck at politics and dedication but can do basic image editing and have a friend who could proof read my terrible English.
We just need some people to keep up with rss feeds and security news and someone who knows their political science.

unless of course the position is being applied for in which case nvrmnd

I'd can do the editing/proofreading (qualifications: I have been writing 6 page essays since I was 10-years-old. English is second nature). If that position is already taken, I can help with the design (qualifications: I have written over 3 dozen PowerPoint presentations, all of which were for academic purposes and 70% were voted best by my classmates {usually, this was because of class assignments where each person had to write a 30 slide PowerPoint. After each person presented, there would be a vote for who was best, and the winner got the gift of temporary satisfaction.}). Otherwise, I have no way to contribute to this project because I don't know of or have access to any news sites regarding CompSec.
