ssh log in

I've been looking on google for tutorials about ssh, or telnet... I've got a box that I've found and I'm trying to gain access to it and from what I understand ssh and telnet act as terminals for this. Im using a xp box with nmap and putty, I port 22 is open(ssh) and i can connect to it but thats as far as i know... this is the first time I've ever tried rooting, any help with getting past a ssh log in would be greatly apreciated or links to a tutorial.

info about the box. it hosts a great resource site and has good information on cryptography and steganography, but unfortunetly has been abandoned by the owner. the only reason its still up is because people still use it but it hasn't been updated in two year and isn't going to be updated ever again, wich is quite unfortunet, but if any one could help me that would be great.

Whether the owner has abandoned it or not doesn't matter. If it's not yours don't try hack it. It's that simple. What you're asking is help with something illlegal, you won't find that here. If you're genuinely interested in learning the basics of rooting visit a site like PullThePlug.org which is a legal training ground

hmm, i see what your getting at but the fact that this site show's and explains several ways and even try's to simulate a... I don't know, theres a bank hacking challenge in the realistic missions isn't there? the ethics kinda confused me.

besides I've already emailed him about a nother hack(xss) and he apriciated the info. your wrong about what i'm asking for. I'm asking for help if you don't want to help me then don't bother, i'm trying to learn. What I do with what i learn is my resposibility not yours, so if you don't think you can help me learn because of moral and ethical issues then please don't.

and to be clear as to what my goal is, i want to learn wether what I'm atempting is possible or not, what he still has there for the site, and thats it, The site itself is based off of the same concepts as HTS and HBH, only its ment for reverse engeniring, I don't know if you've ever heard of it but the site is 3564020356.org. He asks you to atempt to hack his site just like hts with realistic 17...

so if this thread deserves to be locked then i gladly invite the mods to lock it or delet it that way I don't have to deal with people that would rather try to flame me than set me on the right path.

There is a stark difference between flaming you and providing you sound advice.
