Hey there I am going to be hosting some stuff on my computer for a game and it needs me to open up port 80 on my router. Somewhere I read about some "port 80 exploit" and i feel a bit, well, intimidated mr freeman.

I've done some in depth research google and saw a bit about people putting your IP adress into their web browser and doing scary crap

I know this is realy n00by, but this is what this section is for isn't it?
Could somebody please tell me what all this port 80 h4x0r buisness is about

Since I don't have anything to contribute I figured I'd get my post count up.
And even though I made far more grammar and spelling mistakes than you did, try to do better next time.

You (seem) to be talking about port forwarding. It's really simple. Just set a static IP on the machine you want to host things from, ensure that the software firewall, if applicable, has port 80 open for inbound TCP connections. Then you put the IP address of your router into your web browser to open the admin control panel. There will most likely be a password, and if you have not changed it, then it will most likely be whatever the router ships as default (you can find lists online with this information if you don't have your user manual anymore) Then you want to go to the port forwarding configuration page, and forward port 80 to the static IP address you set on your computer. When someone attempts to access your external IP, it will 'redirect' (simplified!) the packets to your computer.

For more port forwarding instructions, check out http://portforward.com/

Also, this isn't hacking, this is simple network maintenance :]

Let me know if you need any more help.

To open a port is not dangerous at all!
To have programs listening to ports can be dangerous though.
