Vista vs Fedora (on terms of hacking)

Please forgive my noobieness...
But what is better for hacking in general. Or is there a special hacking OS?
I have seen videos about special "hacking OSes" is this just a mith of are they real?
Also does Fedora support linksys pci adapters?
Thank you for the input....

There are some linux distros, such as backtrack, which came with security and monitoring apps: http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack.html
But it isn't a magical-hacking-OS.

Between vista and fedora, I'll choose fedora (obviously): vista is still unstable and also unsafe imho. I'm quite sure that fedora will support the pci card and you won't have any problems configuring it (fedora will probably do it automatically).

First off, mith is actually myth.

Second, I don't believe that there are any "special" hacking OS's. You may be able to do more hacking with a specific OS, but as gugaboy said, none of them are magical.

Also, I haven't used Vista that much, but I do know that it's not as good as XP. Fedora Core is a must over Vista. I would even use it over XP, especially for hacking purposes. I have used Fedora Core a few times on an older laptop of mine with very little knowledge of linux/unix. It's pretty n00b friendly from what I've noticed. I learned more and more each day as I used Fedora Core and then started to expand my knowledge by experimenting with different linux distros. Hope this helps.

I dual boot Vista and Fedora Core 8... and have found that there are some good tools for both OSes (unfortunately things like Nmap don't run on Vista because *they* have removed support for raw sockets). Generally the source for tools is released, and so you can compile it whichever OS you're on!

As for the linksys adapter, it's taken me ages to get my wireless going on fedora - having tried ndiswrapper and such... (i've eventually settled on some linux ports of drivers). It's worth the effort though!

You could also play around with Damn Vulnerable Linux

really it doesnt matter which version of linux you would like to run...i prefer ubuntu 7.10 over fedora, i dont do any type of hacking on a windoze os (especially vista :-P) but really it just all depends on the tools you use and if you know how to use them or not :-P KNOWLEDGE IS THE KEY!

I find that Windows XP is a very useful OS. I believe that Win XP is the best OS Microsoft has come out with.

Actually, I have. ;)
I just said that I liked XP, not that I preferred it over linux.

I'm much of a windows person... XP to be precise... because of its wide range of support from games and stuff. But on terms of Hacking... I really don't know. I'm quite the n00b. Maybe some time later when i get the hang of it i'll decide on whether switching to Fedora or any other open source software... I keep using XP because of the games.
