First off, mith is actually myth.
Second, I don't believe that there are any "special" hacking OS's. You may be able to do more hacking with a specific OS, but as gugaboy said, none of them are magical.
Also, I haven't used Vista that much, but I do know that it's not as good as XP. Fedora Core is a must over Vista. I would even use it over XP, especially for hacking purposes. I have used Fedora Core a few times on an older laptop of mine with very little knowledge of linux/unix. It's pretty n00b friendly from what I've noticed. I learned more and more each day as I used Fedora Core and then started to expand my knowledge by experimenting with different linux distros. Hope this helps.
