I've completed this after a lot of messing around with cain and abel, what I still don't understand is how you can know which version of the MD hash you use?

Thanx for the hint but it's an MD4 Hash. I didn't think to right click to put the hash in

using the charset from the ELF file and PasswordsPro i found the collision in about ~2:00 (probably 1:56 pr 1:57) but i am using a quadcore 2.66ghz so itll probably be sum bit slower for u

i am definitly feeling very mucb like a [n00b] on this one... even though i am... i haven't the faintest idea where to begin... i got a version of RainbowCrack, and it is asking for the .hs file... what .hs? can someone PM me with a nudge?

thanks...

[edit] oh, and if and when i ever get to this point, i found a good resource (i think) it is an online hash value calc

http://www.fileformat.info/tool/hash.htm

hope that is useful to someone

[edit] got it with cain... just had to find it... that was the hardest part

ok, I'm on a linux system. And thus I need a password cracker b/c there are none that i've been able to see and I don't want to have to emulate windows. I've tried cain while useing WINE but that doesn't work so is there any brute force programs for linux? So that way I can complete this mission? I'm on a debian based Linux system. So can I have some help with this?

I'm beginning to think that this mission is broken.

I've found hash file and the hash value in the locations they were supposed to be in (I'm assuming).

I have tried JTR, MDCrack, and a couple of online tools to crack the Hash, but to no avail.

Cain won't work at all because of my anti-virus software.

MDCrack tells me that the hash value is an unrecognized hash format even after inputting the correct charset.

PM me if you want to know what hash value i found so maybe I can determine if I even have the correct one.

Any other tips?
