MDCrack isn't working

I have tried the suggested methods in the HTS tutorial (http://www.hackthissite.org/articles/read/957)
but am having problems, I got the -SPOILER- and the hash file that tells me the character set and algorithm from /lib/ and I have fed the 32 character hash into MDCrack, selected md4 and entered the character set found, but it cannot seem to decrypt. It racks up loads of time before failing.

I also tried entering the hash into online bruteforcers and reverse-lookup databases to no luck, they all say it cannot be decrypted .

Could you help me please, is the hash I got impossible or am I doing something wrong ?

Cain and Abel cracked it just fine. Unless I'm just retarded, it did only take about 2 seconds and yielded the correct password....

Yeah, Cain and Abel worked just fine. At first it told me that is was going to take upwards of 4000 years but it did it in about 15 seconds, tops. The key to it is to select the proper encryption algorithm.

It is frightening to think of brute-forcing a hash when the estimated time to be taken is so many years. But actually the password is not that long. C&A would do it very fine when you choose the password length wisely. I would suggest that you should take the encryption method and charset found on the other file and make the assumed password length neither too short and of course, nor too long.

MDCrack isn't working

MDCrack worked for me, make sure you pass it the hash correctly... MDCrack works a little different than John.

It's not md4....

yes it's md4, and jtr can't do md4

jtr can do md4, but you have to patch it... which is a pain.
MDCrack works just fine though, made by the same folks too i think.

Chances are you're messing up with the algorithm somewhere.

OK, guys, this is my first post here... so, have to say one offtopic "this site is great"!

Now, i started today, and went trought all basic missions, real 1,2, all javascript, and maybe something more, cant recall now... but now i started to have some problems, a lot of...
AND, maybe because now is 3 AM here, I cant find any hint in my head to start this mission.

First, it is hard to use forums as recourse of hints, because in this level, ppl assume, that we know basic idea, but we have more complex problems.

So, I dont have any idea where to start, and just got confused with that Go**le stuff someone mentioned, lol.
I would appreciate if can get any help solving this stage, at least until I get some hash.
