You should! It's really cool... :geek:

There is a lot that this device can do, but my first project would be to setup Home Automation. I think that would be pretty cool! And I would love to get myself a second device to run Linux on, and you know carry it around in my laptop bag (it has a battery obviously) and so I have my study material on the second device. Sure one could use a laptop or a smart phone for this but all the geeks here know why you'd rather use the PI :geek: It's just too damn awesome! lol

Yeah, I'm thought about getting one too, but dont exacly know what I'd use it for, since I don't know the possibilities yet. Anyway, have fun with it I guess...

I think for some home animation, you should also check out Arduino ;)

Get an infrared receiver and LED, record all your remote control codes, then build a web interface for a universal remote. Write some scripts that can be launched such as "Welcome Home" and "Sleep" that will handle multiple codes. Write a cron job that checks your arp table every minute to determine when you get home based off your phone's MAC address being on the network, then use that to launch "Welcome Home". Get a PowerSwitchTail for lamps or anything else that can't be controlled via remote. Finally, mount it up in a cool-looking enclosure, and you have something that resembles my living room.

My next plans are to add some sensors on the doors and windows so I can log when they are being opened (and possibly text me if they are opened when I am away), temp sensors both to log the temp throughout the day and to turn on the AC for 10 minutes when it gets too warm, maybe some wireless speakers, and a servo for my deadbolt.
Assume that everything I say is or could be a lie.

That are some serious plans...
I read an artical the other day about some guy, that wrote a script for a Rasberry Pi to break into networks, mounted it on some sort of RC helicopter and flew around with it, thought it was pretty cool. Not sure if you heard of it...

Wow, you guys are creative! haha!!! :ugeek:

I guess I will try these too! Like the adding some sensors to the door! I was also thinking what about having key cards with bar codes on them, for the different people in the house, such is I can exit whenever I want, same with my parents, but the Maid can enter at say 7-8am and leave at 4-5 pm only, not be able to enter or exit later than that :?

Hmmm and robotics would also be awesome! One day I will make a robot that can fetch me my books hehehe
