Get on IRC, there are a lot of people there that can help. Aside from that, have you taken a look at some of the Capture the Flag hacking challenges or war games around the Internet?

HackThisSite has a few challenges of course, Over The Wire is another one and on WeChall you can find a lot of sites with similar challenges. As you've tried Metasploit and probably know how to use VMs, you could set up a target practice machine (e.g. Damn Vulnerable Web Application and Metasploitable). It depends on what you want to learn.

Note: there are more people here more qualified to answer this question, I just posted some ideas.

I like how the title says "no noob"... Yet you're clearly a noob.

And it depends on what interests you. There's too many paths to go down which all depend on what you want to do.

If you are a computer scientist, you should know how things work. If not, well that's where you should start.
Learn how to program, and I don't mean just sit down and learn how to use a programming language. Build something, like a dynamic website with a real structure behind it. If you create things, it will become clear to you how those things can break or become broken without the right precautions.

Also, this title sucks, so I changed it up in my response.

This isn't Twitter. Besides that, you can do whatever you want. I gave you some options, research them. Crypto, coding, exploit development, reverse engineering, web application hacking and embedded systems hacking (including Wifi) are all useful things to know.

Man, I get a little excited/flustered whenever I read 'embedded system'. I need to get a job at Intel :)

How about trying out PIC microcontroller coding, Arduino or robot building then?
