I'd forgotten about this but I just noticed some folks trying to hack my little map :|

Here's the code :geek:
Code: Select all
#!/bin/sh

LAT=""
LON=""
X=""
Y=""
MAP_IMAGE="htsmap.jpg"
COLOR="#FF00FF"

# convert visitor IP address to lat/long by "parsing" geoplugin.net XML
# modifies LAT LON
# getLL $ip
getLL() {
  RAW=$(curl "http://www.geoplugin.net/xml.gp?ip=${1} 2>/dev/null")
  LAT=$(echo "$RAW" | grep "latitude" | sed -e :a -e 's/<[^>]*>//g;/</N;//ba')
  LON=$(echo "$RAW" |grep "longitude" | sed -e :a -e 's/<[^>]*>//g;/</N;//ba')
}

# guess OS from agent string and assign color
# modifies COLOR
# getOS $agentstring
getOS() {
  ret=$(echo "$1" | grep "Windows")
  if [ "$ret" = "$1" ]; then
    COLOR="#FF0000"
  fi

  # check for X even if Windows is true, could be Wine
  ret=$(echo "$1" | grep "X11")
  if [ "$ret" = "$1" ]; then
    COLOR="#00FF00"
  fi

  # mac here?
}

# map lat,long to a point in the image
# modifies X and Y
# getXY $latitude $longitude
getXY() {
  X=$(echo "(180.0 + $2) * 2" | bc )
  Y=$(echo "(90.0 - $1) * 2" | bc )
}

# draw the specified point on the map image
# drawPoint $X $Y $COLOR
drawPoint () {
  x0=$(echo "$1 - 0.5" | bc)
  y0=$(echo "$2 - 0.5" | bc)
  x1=$(echo "$1 + 0.5" | bc)
  y1=$(echo "$2 + 0.5" | bc)
  mogrify -fill "$3" -draw "circle $x0,$y0 $x1,$y1" $MAP_IMAGE
}

getLL "$REMOTE_ADDR"
getOS "$HTTP_USER_AGENT"
getXY $LAT $LON
drawPoint $X $Y $COLOR

# dump image to browser
printf "Content-Type: image/jpg\r\n\r\n"
cat $MAP_IMAGE

@charlieace
I've wondered this myself and I see that a large number of proxies seem to exit from the New York area

Personally, I didn't much care for Takedown (aka Crackdown). However most of the other movies mentioned are at least endearing. I also thought Sneakers was pretty cool, way old school. Nice to see no one mentioned Antitrust... What a stinker that was.

There are some interesting suggestions in here that I haven't seen but will have to check out, especially the documentaries. Now this wasn't a hacker movie but how about in Jurassic Park where the young girl looks at the computers and says something like "This is a Unix! I know this!" and she proceeds to hack into it and override the security system of the island :o

I think out of all mentioned so far, WarGames was probably my favorite.

Also, is that map updated normally? I think I might be the little green *nix on the US west coast, but I'm not 100%

Well, I turned it off a while back after seeing shell commands being thrown at it. It is vulnerable but you'd have to hack geoplugin first :)

@Defience
That was a good scene lol. Also, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLv6Jw-RsoY

Awww. Oh well.

Also I gotta say Hackers in Bond Movies piss me right the hell off. Take Tomorrow Never Dies or Goldeneye. Ugh.

Wargames & pirates of silicon valley are my favs... didn't really like Hackers or Takedown.

I did like though that they gave Trinity some skills using nmap for an ssh exploit (?) in matrix 2 though.
I had a budgie once..
He was blue..
He said it was cause he was lonely.
