I use a combination of virus and spyware software. I've found that each one finds and deletes different malware. If one misses a specific malware another might be able to find and remove it.

You can get the free version of Spyware Doctor by downloading the Google pack here:

http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html?hl=en

After you download and install Spyware Doctor, you can uninstall the Google pack.

I also use the free version of Adaware:

http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

And SpyBot Search and Destroy:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Hope this helps you... ;)

I had a virus like that on my old computer. My old computer was a dinosaur, hadn't been connected to the internet in years, so this virus must have lain dormant. Don't quite know what triggered it, but it kept opening up the webpage, but as I wasn't connected to the net it couldn't connect. It was a real problem, especially while gaming (offline, of course). I never fixed it, AdAware never picked it up. Though, granted, it was AdAware 6.0, I think.

If you don't worry about the data in that computer being lost wipe everything. END OF STORY
:|
Or you can take the long, tedious, and not 100% malware removal method which could potentially cause more damage.
