all of us get fed up with windows at some time or another, so here's a substitute called reactOS. it's based off of 2003/XP windows, though that means it might be kicked right back over if windows 7 gets its foot in the door for programmers.

the big thing being that it also supports COlinux natively (bottom of the reactOS homepage)

Does ReactOS emulate the binary layer or attempt to execute it via a direct method?

sorry, don't get into it that much, i know that the architecture is supposed to be the same though so that it should run most windows programs (if it borrows from win32 it won't work of course). i stumbled upon it a bit back and have been thinking about dual booting it for my laptop, and was hoping for feed back on whether it was good or bad XD
