Re: Programming 10

Doesn't something feel familiar? Like, the amount or the value range or something like that?

Re: pick a language, any language

I was afraid that'd come. You never saw C# close-up, did you? You just don't like it because Microsoft invented it. I don't like Python in return, but no point in pushing that opinion onto watts. Especially you as moderator should know that such rantings should be take out elsewhere, and not on a to...

Re: pick a language, any language

I feel we had such topics already, but meh... Since you know HTML now, you might want to look into PHP. No strict typing, syntax close to other higher programming languages, and you can even use your HTML knowledge when writing web applications. If you know some basics and the flow of it already, yo...

Re: Programming 2 - Interpretation of the challenge

It shouldnt yield letters, but dots and dashes. If it doesnt, you're probably doing something wrong.

Re: Variable handling in php, JS

I'd rather say they simply keep the largest common representation of them all...most likely a string.
Stored as either a linked list (as mischief pointed out) or some other sort of hash map that keeps the value for a name.

Re: Web Browser From Scratch

Just look into WebClient and/or HttpWebRequest instead. They take an URL and download the file, string or whatever is on the other side in an easy way.
Whatever you'd want to do with a Browser control, is most likely the long way round.

Re: PHP, preg_split

How about http://php.net/preg_split ?
It works just like str_split, except that it takes a regex.

Re: Problem with C++ arrays... HELP!! :(

You might want to check the parameters substr takes, and what it returns.
substr returns a string, so you'd have to get the first character of it (even tho it is only 1 char, as string it takes up 2 bytes).

Re: First program

Output is slow in general. If you ever have performance-critical stuff, I doubt it would/should be printing that much to slow it down even further.
But I doubt performance and optimization are the last things he wants to hear, he's just about to get started.
