Re: Web Servers

Notepad++ then preview in browser. DreamBeaver inserts so much duff code that it's unrecognisable as a site afterwards when viewing source.

Re: is tcp/ip knowledge useful in web development?

Well if you think of it from an attackers perspective, you'll see that it is quite important. Take for instance if a web dev sets up a site using all default ports for all web goodies. FTP, http, ssh if needed, squid proxy, mySql etc etc. Standard scans would just open you too so much. Now take that...

Re: How to start off with webapp pentest?

Do the realistic based missions on this site. That'll give you a good grounding. Also read the Web Application Hackers Handbook. It's full of really useful stuff. Helps if you do know a ton of web based coding as you're always in viewing source code. Having an understanding of Javascript, PHP and My...

VIM Genius

Stumbled on a site that teaches you about VIM. It's done in an interactive way on the site. It's quite good. I use nano for basic BASH scripting but some people might find it useful

Re: Windows 8 or 10?

I did buy a brand new laptop with Win8 on it. Upgraded to Win10 instantly and grabbed the key. I then bought a Samsung EVO 850 SSD and got the WIn10 ISO and installed it fresh. Put my old HDD back in and rolled it back to Win8. Now I have a back up OS and Win10 on the SSD. Best to do a disk image ba...

Re: Final year project ideas?

You could get a Raspberry Pi and set it up as a security camera. The GPIO pins on the Pi are open to anything really. From making an LED blink on and off forever to something more complex.

Re: Windows 8 or 10?

I've been using 10 since it came out. I skipped 8 because it felt like they done a Vista on us. Win10 is what Win7 was. A breath of fresh air. It's faster than 8 by far. I use Win7 in work and Win10 at home. However, Windows is a lot like buying an iPhone. You just get the same old same old with eve...

Re: AMD970 chipset compatibility problem

I'm usually an Intel based PC builder but one thing you need to be sure of is that the CPU, RAM and Motherboard are all compatible with regards to BUS sizes and speeds. PIN configurations obviously need to match for Mobo and CPU and RAM needs to be of the right DDR type so the physical aspects line ...

Re: Could taking action against scammers be acceptable?

The way I see it, there's always someone better than someone else out there. No matter what. No matter what my skill level was, I'd probably never hack back. Much like poking a stick into a hornets nest, you'd better be prepared to get stung.
