I tried to make the code work for the first example but gave up because I'm kinda busy atm. I would suggest that it's likely the way Java compares stuff. Maybe look up compareTo and other similar methods. Also chars are defined with single quotes. Though looking at your number converter that return...

Well, I think it's still better than that hack community forum I was on once (not going to say which), where the posts were only: "Crack a facebook account in 5 seconds!", "How to crack passwords!",... It was just plain boring.
