the name of the game might help... from what you've told us, the game isn't hosted anymore, so I guess there will be no files available to get because the servers are gone. I guess you'll have to keep trying to contact them or find a private server (I'd have tried to google it but yea... you didn't ...

afaik $1$ indicates a salted hash like in that script: http://code.activestate.com/recipes/325204-passwd-file-compatible-1-md5-crypt/ if it really is crypt(1) you'll have a good chance breaking it by using one of the tools mentioned in the wikipedia article: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikiped...

I have Avast! which works well for me. it does delete some hacking tools but no probs with the app missions.
I absolutely do NOT recommend Panda cloud antivirus!! it deletes all your pirated shit :evil:
