(Edit) April Fools! On a serious note, we have actually considered this before, and an HTS convention may one day happen.. ..sometime after v5 gets released. So, like, 2018, I guess?
We finally did it! After nearly a year and a half, we've finally secured all funding, legal rights, and participants necessary to hold our very own convention: The First-Annual Hack This Convention!
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a two-day hacking and security convention (think a much smaller HOPE or DEFCON) on Friday, August 30th and Saturday, August 31st, at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA:
3311 East Carson Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15203
The cost of the event will be $60 for a two-day one-person pass (without a hotel room), and $220 including an on-site hotel room (two twin beds, limited availability). Only 340 tickets available (thus far), so order fast!
Current headlining participants include security expert and sitting U.S. Congressman, Rep. Lamar Smith, and, most importantly, world-renowned cryptographer Bruce Schneier, as well as some talks from HackThisSite staff and community friends. This event is graciously hosted via an internet security grant afforded by the United States Department of Homeland Security. We are still looking for more participants and sponsors, so please contact us at hack this conAThack this siteDOTorg if you wish to be included. (Please, do not email us about reserving a pass or hotel room. Call the number above, instead.)
Since this event is relatively small and potentially the same weekend as another event, our space is quite limited. Guests are encouraged to call the Petersen Events Center to reserve their pass (and hotel room, if desired) by calling (412) 432-... The FBI. The cut-off date for participant applications will be May 31st at 11:59 PM, and a final schedule will be provided later in June.
This is being posted literally minutes after we got off the phone with Petersen Events Center, so we do apologize for the rough-cut nature of this information. More details will follow as they emerge.
