If you can't explain something to a 5 year old, in under 30 minutes, you don't truly understand the subject.

There are a lot of open challenges for all kinds of stuff all over the internet. Just go find a few and see how well you match up. Noob is better defined as someone who is new to a subject and/or lacks understanding of that subject. You know how much you studied a subject, and what you are good/bad at. It's not rocket science, if you can answer almost all of the questions about a subject, I think you are good. If you can't answer a few questions/complete a task here and there, maybe you should look into it more.

Anywho, you can look up programming challenges, challenges that allow you to "root the box" like Ophs, among others. Just give some a shot; it will help you find your strong/weak (guru/noob) points.

I actually looked that challanges and done the first two of them. Second one was a little hard because of morse alphabet. I'm now working on the third one

My understanding of the word.
New guy = Newbie = Newb > Noob
Newb - original spelling
Noob - someone who fails to grow beyond only having 'new guy' skill level

I think, noobish is a state of mind. If you are not willing to learn more, you will always be a noob, if you are at the beginning of a long road through all the stuff you are interested in, you're more like a beginner, not a noob

Yes, yes there are. If you're unable to drop the posh nomenclature of your subject, and put into terms a 5 year old can understand (represent quarks as M&M's, etc.) then you don't understand your subject, or you're just an arrogant ass.

I think there's a better test. If you have to ask people whether you're a noob or not, you're a noob.
