Right now I'm reading "HTML & XHTML The Definitive Guide" by Chick Musciano & Bill Kennedy. There going into the HTML text such as content-based text styles and physical text styles, and I was just wondering if someone could better explain? So far I've gotten close to chapter 3 but it feels as though I've learned nothing.

Honestly you need to elaborate what the question is that you are asking. Some of us don't know that book, nor what you already have learned. Please clarify what you are unclear about.

No it said that that HTML is made up of tags or elements meant for text mostly that there's two types of text styles content and physical.

I had never heard of tags being labeled as content or physical before. It looks they are also refered to as logical and physical. This link may help explain. It looks like they are just old ways of styling things, but now a days people just use CSS. Unless your being tested on it, I really wouldnt worry about it.

No I'm not being tested I'm learning HTML because i was told its a good place to start. Your right about the the link in the book it must be different because its based on the first HTML&XHTML. Irish when it is referring to Physical this is the changing of text such as the following: bold, italic, monospaced, underlined, strikethrough, larger, smaller, superscripted, and subscripted text.

Content style alters the appearance of text based upon the meaning, context, or usage of the text some of these would be CLASS, ONKEYUP ,DIR, ONMOUSEDOWN, ID, ONMOUSEMOVE, STYLE, TITLE just to name a few. Hope this helps.
