I tried researching what I had stumbled upon about a year ago, with no good returns.

I recal that there was a "Diary" of a hacker that was supposed to be coming out.
It was going to be a movie based on all the events of a hackers life.

Ahhh, I wish I could remember where I found this.

You might be referring to the movie called code2600. I found the website http://www.code2600.com/.
The trailer is pretty good. I hope to see it at some point. I'm not sure if this is the movie you were talking about or not but i'll add it to the list.

documentaries count?
then maybe I'd mention
Hackers in wonderland earliest mention of hacktivism I can think of (2000)
Hackers wanted mainly mentions adrian lamo at the time when he became a wanted man. before he became uber.. well lame. due to the snitching of bradley manning:\
The Yes Men Fix the world although not hackers, these guys are trolls. which should count for something and leads to funny situations (funny for us.. not so funny for massive corporate entities)
as an extra plus, I think all 3 of these are legal to download.

Yes all documentaries count. I honestly don't care what the genre of the movie as long as it is related to Hacking in some way or another. So i'll ad these to the list. :)

Maybe it falls outside the category, compared to the other movies mentioned. But i would put 'The Conversation' in my top 10.
