The FBI is encouraging users to visit a website run by its security partner, http://www.dcwg.org , that will inform them whether they're infected and explain how to fix the problem. After July 9, infected users won't be able to connect to the Internet.

Seems like there just trying to get people to go to there site. I wouldn't trust it to be honest.

I was going to call bullshit on the whole thing but then it occured to me that the people affected probably wouldn't have the first clue how to deal with it and such intervention might be apreciated. I'm not visiting the website though.

^Agree. This would cause a lot of havoc for ISP's. If it's windows you should just be able to put in safe mode with networking update something like malwarebytes, sophos command line scanner, or even combofix. Scan and by now it should rid of this. No need to go to there site and check it out.

When the FBI and others arrested six Estonians last November, the agency replaced the rogue servers with Vixie's clean ones. Installing and running the two substitute servers for eight months is costing the federal government about $87,000.

WHAT THE FUCK? Seriously? $10 grand a month for a FUCKING NAME SERVER? I run a name server through the company I work for, using rackspace or even godaddy FFS.. $99 a month. COME ON FUCKING ASSHOLE GOVERNMENT - You seriously need to dish out that kind of fucking money for a god damn NAME SERVER? Fuck Me.

LMAO. There's tremor. Long time no see man.

Anyways, yeah, figures they would do something like this. Who knows, it may be just an outlet they are blaming extra money going to while it is really going somewhere else.

LMAO!!

What I'm confused about is that why not push a checker out as soon as they shut these guys down instead of going through all the trouble of setting up new servers? If it were me, I would have recorded all of that activity from the unsuspecting individuals. Which is likely what has been going on this whole time, and without yielding in real results they are having to close the operation down. Just a theory though.

Also, if they have the ability to reroute traffic then it should be done automatically to the AV script for those infected...
