New to Linux OS

So I made the switch from Windows to Linux.
I'm using Ubuntu and I love it so far.

I do have some questions though.
Wireshark says that capture interfaces are unavailable, but if I run it as root user, it tells me that it's unsafe... but it works.

Also, some of the programs I have installed, (Airpcap, Aircrack-ng) dont show up with shortcuts.
How can I get them, or do I have to run them through the terminal?

Then at the top of the page, I dont have the applications dropdown menu.
I had the file, edit, etc etc, one, then I opted to disable it.
How can I get the apps dropdown menu?
I'm sure I'll find some more to ask about.

Is it the top panel in gnome?

aircrack runs from the terminal, in a similar way you would execute the edit command in the windows consol. This article is really useful if moving from windows

And yes, the menu in Gnome.
How do I switch from Gnome to the other one?
I see different tool bars at the top of the tutorials I find on youtube.
I'm not giving up on this.
I love linux so far,

Do you all know of any good security options I can set or get ahold of?
Like antivirus or spyware?

Before you login there should be an option to switch the theme, next to the username there's a small drop down arrow, but it might be different for your set up. I didnt like unity personally so i chose something else this way.

gufw is a good for applying firewall rules in ubuntu, along with app armour you should be all set. Might be good to see what processes are running and close ones you dont need with system monitor
