What firewall do you use? Looking for a good...free firewall that is better than windows default

I don't think I even use a firewall, at least haven't changed the defaults on my Linux distro. I'll be enthusiastically awaiting the other answers

On linux I use iptables, windows I rarely use it.

I personally have no need for a firewall, but if you really want a good, free one, a simple Google search should satisfy you.

For my windows pc, I use windows firewall + my router acts as a firewall for connections outside my lan.

Perty much anyone with windows 7 is gonna be running a default firewall. Unless of course you're administrating a school or something. For Windows, most will use iptables to mess around with their shit.

Software firewalls R suck, and useless. Disable them, experience better performance. Rely on hardware. Even a shitbox Linksys or Netgear SoHo router comes with an array of solid firewall options that should be more than enough for any average user.

Currently I am running Astaro on an old netbook as a firewall. Does a fairly good job. Free license that you update once a year.

I'm using the firewall of my antivirus program, kaspersky.
sure, it's not the best you can get, but its everything I need and the difference in performance is small.
And it's still way better than the standard windows firewall
