Even if the website needed to be hacked is in violation of copyright laws? This seems like an easier approach to resolving the situation.

If there violating copyright laws the take them to court and get money. If your in the US you can sue for almost any reason and if you don't win you can get a settlement at least. But I'm guessing you have no real evidence. Going this vigilante route, you'll be the one in jail on a number of charges. BTW, it seems like your doing a nice job of building a case against yourself already...
