Really? They must've changed things. Before, I read that addons couldn't modify headers in Chrome

Look up 'Request Maker' ... I don't think it's the same thing as before, but from what I've read it's pretty darn close...

i may be being dense, but
javascript:alert('Alert box!');
does not work for me in firefox, but it works in Chrome and such. Any idea why?

Try command + shift + K (Mac)

If you have one of the newer versions of firefox, I think they changed some things. You should still be able to do it by clicking on tools >> web developer >> then scratchpad. After you type in your alert box code, click execute at the top of the menu in scratch pad then click run.
