Cannot post in "Basic"?

Greetings, for some reason I cannot post in the "Basic" subForum, is this "working as intended?" If so I have a question about Basic Mission 6... THIS IS NOT A QUESTION ON HOW TO SOLVE IT. It took me a few minutes to solve it using a simple rotating digit cypher (single character replacement.) When I was done I scratched my head and felt almost like I "cheated."

After a google search I found that almost everyone did the same thing.... using a character chart and then doing digit replacement.

What I want to know is this: How can I see the code that does the encryption and from there maybe understand the encryption at a glance rather than trial and error? I assume the Form fields are written to SOMEWHERE although after poking around with "inspect element" and "view source" I still cant figure out just what javascript is doing the conversion.

Would a more senior member of the forums or someone with some know-how please PM me or discuss here? TY so much in advance!

I think the basic 6 forum may be locked, I'll check after I reply.
Anywho, I wouldn't say you cheated. That's what you're supposed to do. But as for your question on seeing the encryption algorithm, normally this wouldn't be possible. The site most likely coded it so that it's not viewable by the user. This way no one can actually break the algorithm. The mission was designed for us to have to use a trial and error system to figure it out.

I see... so in this particular situation is there a way to see the algorithm?

Nope. You'd need to have access to the code.

If you were able to break the encryption then you should know enough to code a similar algorithim yourself. You really should not need to see the original algorithim....
