Laptop Dilema

I got a new laptop last year around July. Its a Compaq CQ62 215dx http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-compaq-presario-cq62/4505-3121_7-34121951.html

It came with windows 7 but due to its craptastic xp I was hoping to instal xp on its HDD to get some more performance out of it for video games. I managed to get Linux on it which I dont use cause Im too lazy to learn anything on linux. The xp installation reaches to the end where its supposed to ask you where you want to install and hits me the blue screen of death. Apparently due to some recent hardware changes this may be affecting xp from installing. Go figure. Can anyone help or point me to somewhere where can help? If you do Ill link to some sexy dub step.

About 3 out of every 5 stop errors that I've seen were resolved by just re-seating the RAM. You might need to juggle the DIMMs around the slots if the ol' In-N-Out doesn't work for you, though.

Duplicate the stop error, write down the hex code, and Google it. Though that would probably take longer than fetching a screwdriver.

Are you really that afraid of breaking something, or is it performance anxiety? It's really no big deal to stick your hands under her chassis...

No I'd do it if it were the only option left I just never opened up a laptop before. I tired goggling the Hex Code already but ok I'll go and do it again and post it here while Im at it. Give me an hour....

Don't be afraid to get in there man, tee hee. But anyway, I Googled it and found that it could have to do with your SATA drivers..? You may have to go into your BIOS, and install the right driver for xp. But i'm just taking this from a minimum amount of Googling, i could sound like a babbling idiot.

Open your BIOS and look for a setting along the lines of drive setup/operation/whatever... something along those lines that is set to AHCI, and switch it to ATA. Assuming those are even options for your laptop. I remember having a similar issue with my old Inspiron 1525 when I downgraded Vista to XP.

I just checked my bios. I got "InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev 3.5" there were no options in that thing do with drivers at all. It barely had any settings to change. Only 4 menus to. So anything else I can try?

What exactly did you see in the BIOS?
