Hey Guys.

I have 'acquired' some salted MD5 hashes (mmm tasty) in the md5(md5($salt).md5($password)) format which I now need to break.

I have looked at barsWF however my ATI 6780 is not supported, lame. I have also looked into using EC2 and CUDA Multiforcer however the above md5 format is not supported. I don't see allot of GPU powered alternitives and my Q6600 is a little slow for this kind of task. Short of hiring a botnet anyone have any suggestions?

Step one: google the hashes
Step two: search in hash cracking websites.
Step three: Use HashCat to break it
Step fourth: if not possible use http://www.freerainbowtables.com/

Hashcats a good idea as it atleast supports the correct md5 format although is not GPU accelerated. Free rainbow tables sucks imho but worth a go incase of a collision. I am in the midst of conning some bot net breaking time out of a friend so hopefully it wont be an issue. Thanks for the advice though

Acording to teh l33t sysadmin at work john the ripper is cuda GPU supported so should be good for EC2. Hmm interesting i wonder what will be cheaper.

Well, considering that John the Ripper is free, I'd try that in your scenario.

GPUs are way faster. My 5870 does 310000000 SHA-2(256) hashes/sec.

I have looked all over the Internet looking for a solution, and that is how i came across this thread.

2(Bit)**256(Bits) / 340000000(Being optimistic with a 900 OC core/900 UC memory clocks) / 60(seconds in a minute) / 60(minutes in an hour) / 24(hours in a day) / 356(days in a year) / 100(years in a century) = 1.10722589 × 10^59

Basically, forget about it.
