Java GUI

Hello everyone, I have completed writing my program and am unsure how to make it into an actual Desktop application where it can be installed and uninstalled. I have been looking at the Netbeans swing gui, but I am getting slightly confused with it. If I am on the right track on making what I have written into an actual application I will learn it, but I just want to make sure that I will be learning the correct thing.

So, is using the Netbeans Swing the way to make your program into a desktop application that can be installed/uninstalled ?

as far as i know netbeans is just a programming environment. But swing is used to create desktop applications If you want more info, google or ask, can't reply more now.

Are you looking for a GUI toolkit, or an installer-builder? In the former, Qt is my preferred toolkit. In the latter, I don't have any experience building stand-alone installers, but Nullsoft's scriptable install system comes to mind.

I guess both. I really didn't plan on programming my own GUI, i just wanted to piece everything together with what I have now. Il start googling Qt now

Man, I am having trouble figuring out how to take what I have written in netbeans and making it so that the gui would work.

So now I am trying the Netbeans built in GUI.

I do suggest programming your own GUI. It realy isn't THAT hard. You'll learn alot though: layouts, listeners, components...

I don't know anything about Java, but I can say with complete confidence that it takes longer to learn Qt than it does to learn Java. I'm also sure that it's well worth your time

Don't let this be a damper on your attitude. Let this be a catalyst for your learning.

++

Qt becomes much more appealing after you make it past simple "hello, world" widgets

Ya well, I don't think I was going to be able to get it done by Friday anyway. I have finals in the up coming week so...I will be focusing on studying anyway.

In my off time, I am currently grabbing all the Qt resources i can find from google. I am making sure to stay away from video tutorial, I learned that lesson from IRC :P

Could anyone tell me why is it that when I run the GUI i built with netbeans, nothing appears? On the preview everything appears fine.
