Ubuntu Linux won't let me log on

Recently i installed Ubuntu Linux 10.10, I was able to log on and off multiple times. Then I was visiting another forum while using linux when I logged off then tried to log on, I could not get back in to linux. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This sounds extremely unlikely. Can you log in through a terminal?
