Setting up my own IRC?

Well I love what an irc is, and would enjoy setting one up I can use for me and my friends.

I would like a free one seeing as how it's not like I will be using it for anything serious.

I looked at this one:
http://www.echatserver.com/
I like it because it's 128-bit encrypted. Nice and secure. But I don't know how good the free version is. Was wondering if anyone has used it?

Just any suggestions below :)

freenode.net
The glass is neither half-full nor half-empty; it's merely twice as big as it needs to be.

people from my gaming clan are seeing the light and slowly pulling away from IRC and using our Mumble Server. I think we use esper.net for IRC. I don't manage it though and have never been much a fan of IRC (I came from telnet chat way back in the day)

On a side note however, what would you suggest if you wanted to completely host your own IRC server?

I have always used UnrealIRCd simply because that is the first one I was introduced to.
Assume that everything I say is or could be a lie.

This might be what your talking about.

A mumble server? Hmm I think I've heard of it but might have to use all knowing google to find out more. And telnet was where it all started lol.
