The existence of the human soul, is fundamental assumption shared by ALL religions. Disproving or proving it scientifically could result in the destruction of either religion of atheism. Where the soul is something that determines who we are that is independent of the human brain.

The problem is that in order to prove or disprove something, you have to be able to define it, right?
Much of the debate so far has been about the nature of the soul, and if we can't agree on the characteristics, how can we test it?

Interesting definition. I disagree. I think the structure and chemical composition of our brain determines who we are(artificially changing the balance and levels of certain chemicals in the brain can change the person's behavior/personality, who they are) and there for the soul and brain aren't independent.

Just for the record, most religions say that a human has three "parts", three levels of existence: spirit, soul, and body. To say it very simply, the spirit is our intellect, the soul is with we "feel" (feelings), and the body is our phisical body. Everybody knows that we have intellect, and we have feelings too. Whether it is an astral body, or the electronic pulses of our brain, we have something which religions call "soul", otherwise we wouldn't have feelings.
