I read about this on slashdot earlier. It's not an obvious invasion of people's privacy in the sense that around 80% (random guess) won't notice nor care about it, so it'll cause a minor stir with privacy groups and such, but people are just amazingly willing to give up their freedoms these days.

Although it's true that intelligence agencies can be extremely adapt at spying on and tracking known individuals, I highly doubt they're out there collecting information on a massive scale (IE, totally non-discriminantly). Laws like this are the first step into further laws that would allow them to monitor indiscriminately. Now, it might be true that if you haven't broken the law you have nothing to fear, in theory, it's a crazy breach of personal privacy as it is. I don't let my best friend read my text-message conversations to my girlfriend, why should I be OK if some guy in a suit does?
