Genuine Help Needed!

Hello People,

I really need some help. I recently obtained a new laptop (running Windows 7) and I'm having some real issues with connections:

IE8 works fine.

Firefox does not work(Just appears to have connections blocked).

FTP of any kind doesn't work...I get 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' when tried in IE8. Third party FTP clients don't connect (SO annoyed!! I made a JavaScript XECryption decryptor that I wan't to upload to my server.).

P2P of any kind does not work.

iTunes Store won't connect so I can't even update mu iPhone

It's not the firewall (tried turning it off). It's not any anti-virus(tried unistalling it). It's not any updates(I removed every SINGLE one).

I'm so stressed out  I don't like asking for help, I much prefer to solve issues/problems myself but this time I'm out of things to try and I'm on the verge of sending a bomb to Microsoft's head office (that was a joke by the way :D ). Since I'm newish to this community I'm sure you guys/girls could make me feel welcome by helping me out.

Thanks in advance,

Can any of the other computers on your network access the iTunes Store? If not, you may have something else in the way of you and the iTunes store. Are you using any type of proxy? Anyways, refer to this incase you were too lazy to google it: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368

Other computer on the network can access it fine. Thanks for the link but I've tried all that, I think you are missing the point. iTunes store is insignificant (The only reason thats annoying me is that I need to update the software on my iPhone so I can download some reading software and do a bit of reading on the way to work :geek: ). The real problem for me is not being able to access any FTP sites. Seriously...I'm out of ideas on this one...is there any ports that might be closed and causing me problems?

Sounds like a firewall problem. Make sure you have all firewalls turned off. Go through add/remove programs and see if there is anything you don't want.

You are most likely using a wireless router. If not ignore all of this.
Have you checked the settings on the router for the firewall?
Do you have it set up to only allow registered ip's?
Do you have a wireless card and is it compatible with the computer?

I am using wirless but it can't be the router because any other computer/laptop I use can connect to anything with no problems. It's just this stupid Windows 7! (Yes, I am going to pass the buck onto the O.S and no my inability to fix it).

Maybe its an issue between the OS and the hardware.
You tried using a Ethernet cable directly to the modem to see if that works?

If Windows Firewall is disabled, and you have nothing else blocking ports, it is almost certainly a router issue.

Try booting into a different OS and seeing if the problem persists. If it goes away, this is either a freak incident, or there's something OS related blocking the ports.
