A few of us have been talking, and we have decided it's about time we brought back the old HackThisSite lectures. We reached this decision in part because of the lack of - how should I put this? - intelligent discussion on the forums. We're going to teach you if we have to drag you screaming!
Alright, so how will this work? While the details are still being hammered out, the general flow will be like this:
- Ideas for lectures are submitted
- We read through and pick out the best
- Lecture is prepared, date/time announced
- Everyone gets on IRC (and probably Ventrilo as well)
- ?????
- LECTURE!
Random info blob:
It'll probably change a few times as we all get used to it, but overall the process should be fairly stable. For those of you who cannot make it, we will be recording all the lectures and be making them available for download/viewing (YouTube?) The reason for having both IRC and Vent is that we can have a bot read the lecture in IRC, then take questions in Vent. Also, you're able to save the logs in IRC for archive purposes, even if the Vent recording fails. We will most likely be muting the channels during the actual lecture, pausing occasionally for questions. We don't know how long it may take, but a ballpark estimate would be anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. We're aiming for maybe one lecture each month, then go from there.
So, seeing as we want to get the ball rolling, post some suggestions for lecture topics. Rules:
- Must be legal in the U.S.
- Keep it relatively simple for this first lecture
- Lecture/process suggestions/questions ONLY (this will be enforced)
