Would anyone be willing to let me PM them and help me out with understanding this overflow concept? I can't seem to wrap my brain about how to go backwards through this hash. :(

Thanks in advance.

A common example of the overflow concept would be a 24 hour clock, after the 24th hour it starts over with 0, and by just looking at the clock, you would never know how many days had passed.
Never stop learning.

Sorry, what I meant was how to implement it with my program. I understand the concept.

I am also in need of assistance. I can't seem to figure out how to "unwrap" the hash with my program. Can anyone help?

Nice puzzle. I didn't solve it for a while because I thought I needed a bignum library and was too lazy to find one that worked easily with MinGW, but then I realized all you need are 64-bit ints which are natively supported (long long).

(Same with a lot of Project Euler problems, although there does come a point where you need bignum for those.)

Depends what you mean by "unwrapping". There is no way to reverse a hash, that's what makes it a hash. All hashes have to be brute-forced to some degree, but you can find a way to significantly reduce the number of options in your brute forcing by looking at the properties of the number in question.

Well, I completed the mission. My bruter got the password in a second.
But I still don't understand why it works.
I used a batch debugger (from JPSoft) and when I run it through the
debugger, it goes to "Access Denied!". No wonder why,
the passwordvalue does not equal (**********).
Thing is, it works when not running it through the debugger. Why is that?

-- EDIT --

Wait a sec. Is it because batch uses dword size integers, so after a certain
value (0x7FFFFFFF) it goes to negative, thus the modulo?

I don't get why you bruted the site to get a password to a mission because the missions are up for people to learn from. Try to solve the missions yourself. Kay?

He didn't brute force the site. Try solving the mission, kay?

fashizzlepop is right. I didn't bruteforce the site.
Why would I be talking about a modulo then?
I wrote a bruter in Delphi to bruteforce the hash in the batch.
Writing a bruter to brute the site is much harder than this.
I wouldn't go through all that trouble when it's so simple.

I now know exactly why it works. I answered my own
question there earlier. The only strange thing is that
it doesn't work inside that batch debugger.

This is driving me crazy. How am I supposed to "unwrap" the hash?
