question about the rules

Lets say I've a little sister and download some nds(nintendo ds) games for her. Now some games are altered in such way that the games do work, but you miss a critical part of the game. This can be solved by editing the game with a hexeditor.
Now my question: is it allowed to discuss altering games in any way(in my example a hex editor)?

It's against the rules to talk about:

a.) Illegally hacking/cracking or downloading games for full version (i.e. Torrenting)
b.) Any misconduct against the game's TOS (i.e. Using "hacks" to gain advantage)

I'm guessing (but not 100% sure) that your example falls under those categories.

I'ts not against the rules as long as you

• don't involve any actual product that's protected by law
  
• do it strictly for educational purposes
  
• keep it within the limits of ethical rules

Once you cross these limits, the discussion is not suitable for the community.

when you say download, would you be referring to the ROMs to play on an emulator or something else? if its an official game, its illegal.

Many ROMs are perfectly legal under the basis that you actually own an original copy of the game.

my mistake. i remember reading that somewhere regarding psx emulators but i wasn't sure if it was the case with all ROMs. thanks for the info
