what is your opinion about greek people?

I've only met 3 Greeks. One of them needs to learn to shower, but is a pretty cool guy other than that.

The other two were twin sisters from Greece that spoke only basic English. I got assigned to tour them around our campus. They were nice people overall.

Only 3? Your entire life?
I guess i find that odd considering the part of Australia where i'm from has a very large population of Greek people and is very much dominated by Greek Culture.

I've mixed opinions on Greek people, as a whole.
The houses in my suburb are predominantly built and occupied by Greek people/families, so I have regular encounters with Greeks all the time.
Many of the 'mature' Greek people i have met (older adults, almost all seniors) to be very nice, loving and caring people, always friendly.
However, the large number of Greek teens i find to be arrogant, vain and way too caught up in the mindset of "I'm Greek, my culture is superior to yours, I can do what i like".
I believe this is due, mainly, to the wholehearted loving they are shown by there parents and family through the earlier years of their lives.
Many of these kids come from families where they are the sole child (or 1 of very few), and the parents (unintentionally) spoil them, and bring them up to believe that the sine shines out their ass and the world revolves around them.

There are many exceptions to this, of course, and i also have many friends who are Greek and are very laid back, modest and 'cool' people.
I am in no way opposed to Greek people or Greek culture at all. I also back Monica 110%; I love Greek food, But, based on what i see/have seen, this is where i stand.

Anyway, yes, I've only met three Greeks who've actually identified themselves as being Greek. I'm sure there's been more people I've met that have Greek roots, but are basically Americans.

Meh, most greek people are arrogant and racist. They forgot that they've been fighting for their freedom for over 4000 years. Most of the think their race is superior, all these "macedonia is greek" shit, "the only good turk is a dead turk" etc. They were unable to repulse their government's propaganda and they ended up voting for the same people in elections for the past 100 years or so. Older generations that lived in the junta, or the dictatorship in greece are a lot more down-to-earth, friendly people and more educated about the country's political problems. Greeks for the past 40 years or so, (right after the junta) have been caring only about how they earn more money at their jobs, how many chicks they get laid with, and the 'fashion'.

Only think that they're through a large economic crisis and they only thing the TV is showing is the new porn movie of a greek porn actress, and the breakups of greek celebrities.
Also notice the large abuse of power by cops, soldiers, politics, the media etc. People who want to protest are dealed with the worst ways possible (violence by the police), etc

Most educated people in greece, such as authors or music artists express the same feelings in their works, but unfortunately not a lot of their co-citizens are able to understand the shitty situation of their country. It's a pitty those people who once used to be the 'jewel of the world' as they still insist to say have deformed their culture and replaced it with cheap entertainment that mostly lasts for a night.

I'm saying these because I have close contact with actual greek people that live in greece. Not being racist or anything, but that's the truth for _most_ of them, especially the youth...
