Hacking Groups

Pretty much what the title entails, I'd like some info on hacker groups. I am from Ireland and subsequently looking for a group in that area. I'd like to know if they exist and a little info bout anything about them.

Thanks in advance,
T.

No real reason, just always liked the idea. And something/someone to practice on would be pretty awesome. Also chance to learn from folk rather then alone. Gets kinda boresome constantly reading books and stuff. I also thouroughly enjoy the light-hearted approach you took :)

I have to agree with sand on this one. I have only knowingly met one hacker face to face. He was a friend of my sister's and she knew I was "into computers," so she decided to hang out there for St. Patrick's day. It wasn't nearly as exciting as I thought it would be. He got drunk, made me listen to him rant about how great Tool is, then he went to sleep.

Basically, irc is where it's at. It's easier and cheaper than meeting in person, you can meet people from all over the world, and besides, at least when it comes to hacking, what's the real advantage to physically being in the same location?

and alot of the time, and i say this in a non-judgemental way, that hackers are all into staying unknown and fake profiles even if there is no use as they want to adhere to the stereotype of a hacker; hiding from the law and so on..... like in the movies, so they wont meet yu.

I think we got this a tad wrong i mean like a group from western europe i can talk to on IRC not learn real identites but someone to learn from, to practice on and a group to do projects with. I think alot of people think i mean so i can meet them in person, this aint the case, i want to keep my identity private. Just wanted a group in my TZ to work with.
