A big part about such a negative view of Christianity is simply not understanding it. An example from your list would be alcohol and drugs. As far as alcohol goes, there's no issue in the bible about having a couple of drinks. It's the indulgence in it that can be a problem not only because after time it can be harmful to your body but because you can become weakened in your thinking and actions while intoxicated. When someone wakes up the following day and can't remember or can't believe that they did some stupid things the night before, that becomes an issue as it should for anyone. Jesus had wine with his disciples. Was that a sin? No. If he got a buzz off of the wine would it have been a sin? I don't see why it would, BUT temptation becomes much easier to give into in that state so it's discouraged.
The same goes for drugs in that they can also be harmful to your body and leave you open to greater temptation, not to mention possible addiction, etc. or interference with job, family, law, friends and so on (same with alcohol).
Of course there are some sects that take it to a whole different level like the Amish ( I believe) who don't believe in medicine, doctors, etc.
Gambling and money.....again it depends on what you do with it. If you spend beyond your means it becomes a problem. Someone that would rather bet money on something than pay their bills has issues, but if you throw a dollar on the lottery ticket here and there, it's not a problem. I know a guy that lives with his fiance and he also has a house that he rents out. Well, he's losing that house because he takes the rent money and hits the casino with it thinking he'll win big and it will solve everything. It's too late now. What a waste.....fortunately for him, his fiance keeps him in line with their townhouse.
I don't want to go through the whole list, I just wanted to make the point that I am a Christian, I love God, I love life, and I still have lots of fun! Nothing could make me happier than knowing my place when I leave this world. Nothing else can compare.
The7thGuest: I will post on your other topic.

oh and thanks for bringing all that up
because i think everyone should openly discuss these
-sex - the most screwd up people that i know are the ones most involved in this
-drugs- ok i lied about sex these are the most screwd up ones
-Asking difficult questions about the universe- since GOD created the universe there is bound to be things we dont understand
- Medicinal drugs or even general medical treatment - God does not want us to be ill and doctors are one way he heals us
-having money - God wants us to be rich so we can help others , but if we rely on riches and not God he will take them away
- not having money - sometimes God takes our riches to test our hearts - i sugest you read -Job-
- Masturbation - you arent hurting yourself or others and the bible doesnt prohibit it
- Questioning what you are told - God loves it when we question him because it gives him an opportunity to show us why
- Wearing nice clothes - a little too ambiguos
- Wearing too few clothes - for what reason are you wearing too few clothes? that is were the sin comes in
- Gambling - not a sin but can get you hurt or others hurt - falls into the catagory of stealing
- Borrowing/lending money - God says in the bible that we are alowed to borrow and lend money
- Being gay - now that is sick![]()
![]()
- Thinking independently - thats not in itsself a sin
- Video games - depends on the content of the video game
- Violent movies/TV- depends on what type of violence
- Not taking care of yourself enough- as in sining would be not taking care of you self?
- Worrying too much about yourself - egocentricity as in you more important than God?
- Not ignoring scientific facts - do you know that these facts are facts?
- Being attractive to the opposite sex- if you are a stripper than thats a sin. but if you are attractive and not stripping or doing other things its not a sin
- Thinking about sinning - lusting for sin is a sin
I think you've totally missed my point here... I don't really care if you want to nitpick my examples.
What I'm getting at is why would God care about such stupid, petty things? Do you think God's happy with you being a homophobe, for example?
It just strikes me as a completely ridiculous idea that an all-powerful being actually gives a damn about what clothes you wear or what your sexual preferences are. Call me an evil sinner.
