I can't believe that this is such a popular view here.
The selfish and competitive way so many of us act in is not human nature, it is because we live in a society that tells us this is how to act, the assumption that this is how we are only serves to propagate this defeatist attitude.
'Oh well a world without rape is a nice idea but lets face it, its human nature so whats the point in trying to move towards a world without rape?'
Yes rape is 'human nature' too, by this i mean pre-language, pre-society and pre-ethics, our ancestors too will have gang-raped the females much as happens to domestic cats during mating season and im sure many-a wild animal, but with the creation of language, society and ethics, with 'humanisation' , we have managed to greatly reduce this from happening.
Does it not logically follow that further 'humanisation' or 'moral evolution' or whatever you want to call it we can do away with this 'innate' competitivity and selfishness?
Hell, even if it isn't possible and it will never happen then do you not think that by at least trying to achieve it then we can make the world a better place?
