what does it mean to 'gain op' on the channel?
I see the command i have to use, i just don't understand what i need the bot to do.

you need to gain operator priviledges so you need to use the right command, however you don't have the necessary privs to op or deop someone in that channel, but the bot does so you have to 'hack' the bot. look at the bots commands- can you manipulate the bot to say something to op you?

Ok, now for a realy stupid question...

once i issue !htb i get a moo chat window, am i supposed to issue the 'exploit' in the moo chat window, #htb or even in #HackThisBot ?

moo reacts to commands you type in the #htb channel- so type the commands there

cheers, i'd been putting the op commands into both and was worried that what i was typing may be being seen by anyone else in the #htb room, not only giving others hints but also making me look a complete incompetent as none of them seemed to work...back to the drawing board

You can do these by private messaging moo instead of directly in #htb. I believe irc #9 is the only one required to be done directly in the channel.

It does work, you just have to have the right command thats all, it confused me until i had a little coaching...

That's probably because your syntax isn't correct and moo thinks you're trying a different irc mission which does require it to be done in the channel.

actually i tested that, and it appears like moo requires you to talk in #htb only when using the !say command. all the other commands can be used through a notice\privmsg.
