Ok, I got this one on the first try. Simple enough. Here is my question:
In a real hacking scenario, how would you know that security sam forgot to upload the password file? Here the problem clearly tells you 'network security sam forgot to upload the password file'. In real life, how would you know something like that? That fact is not going to be widely advertised and IMO presents an unrealistic situation. Just my $.02.

Well this isn't a real hacking scenario. It's just retarded missions for new people and even though i admit this mission is a bit too retarded. Basic 1 is actually a nice way to start people off (reading the source code).
