Number 7 easiest next to one or two maybe. Number 8, definetly have a gray hair now.

Edit: removed cause i dont need help, i got it. Man i was getting frustrated. If you've used the ls command before, take it slow!!!!! Your only gonna lose your mind if you try too hard.

whew that took me awhile. For mission 8, you need to know how to execute Unix commands using SSI, and realize that you need to list the parent directory. Hope that helps :D

Ok, I just completed this mission and I hope I can help you.

First, from the previous mission, you know some UNIX commands. Now to learn how to use SSI commands, use this site: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/ssi.html (Note: This site basically gives you the command to use, but you have to read through it to find and understand how to use it)

Once you find the correct command, enter it. You will get a large list of file names. At this point, you are fairly close to the end. However, where you are (in the directory) is not where you need to be. Go back to your UNIX commands, and find something that can be added on to an existing command to change your location. (Hint: Use this site for UNIX commands: http://www.computerhope.com/unix/uls.htm also, it is not a letter but rather a character)

When you figure out how to change the first command you used, you will get to a page with only 3 file names. At this point, you are 1 step away.

You were given this information, the file location!:
Code: Select all
/var/www/hackthissite.org/html/missions/basic/8/

That is the key, think back to how you got to the password from Mission 7. What does that resemble? What is missing or what has been added (to the file location)?

If I go into anymore detail, I would be spoiling it, hopefully I haven't already. Good Luck, I took me a very long time. Don't over think it too much.

Oh.. My.. GOD!!
I don't know if I should even be pissed or happy right now.
I spent about 2 hours rattling my brain to see what I'm missing, and I read everything on the first 18 pages, but they keep repeating themselves, so it didn't help. But when I tried
http://www.learnthat.com/internet/learn ... 0&index=51 someone posted, I got the answer code within 2 minutes, literally. Omg. I didn't even get that list of files like everyone mentioned, only 1 s*tml and some other ones. I put it in the URL and got the code.

FINALLY!!!!

EDIT: Oh and I got very sick and tired of seeing "This is all you need! http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/ssi.html and http://www.computerhope.com/unix/uls.htm" The website I posted above is so much more helpful.

Well if you could not figure out how to do it with those 2 sites, you are very impatient. If you read through the entire page, I am sure you would get the answer just as fast, plus you would learn much more about SSI and UNIX commands and their parameters. Oh and btw, you link doesn't work.

By now I probably know the right command to use but I just don't know where to put it...
It doesn't work for me no matter what.
I'm pretty sure I know which SSI and UNIX command to use...

NVM
I finished it
That was quite... dumb of me
But I guess I learnt more by concentrating on the learning of SSI and UNIX commands
The only mistake that I had after I got the right command is the spacing..... =.=
