You should read some books for starters:

I just bought this - haven't read it yet but it looks good:

The 1st edition was really good for this book and 2nd edition does not seem to have significant changes but it is probably still very good:

This is a very important book for any wannabe pen-tester:

Books are a nice way to get some semblance of a coherent picture regarding anything, and I would tend to agree that they're a good place to start in the area of security.

But you have to remember, no one is here to teach you; that's something you have to do for yourself.

Another great place to go is www.w3schools.com

I recommend starting by learning (x)html, if you don't know it. Once you have a solid understanding of that you can move on to things like javascript and php.

And after PHP/Javascript try to learn a coding language.
Although PHP is one, C++/C/Java would be good to learn

I'm also new to this. But I've found decent hacking sites like HackThisSite, PullThePlug and HellboundHackers all have really good articles, alot of which beginners have no trouble understanding.
I'm not saying my method is the best or anything, but for learning the basics simply trawling through articles on the sites mentioned above gives a fairly good foundation. Well it's worked for me so far anyway ;)
