Animation Programs

Animation Programs

Personally, I have tried Autodesk's Maya and Adobe Flash and both are intriguing. What do you guys all use? I suppose some of you probably program your animations from code however i'm not at that level yet :P

I use 3ds max to model, and I'm pretty sure it can animate, though I haven't tried with it, yet. :P

I use blender 3d to model and animate, also flash. A link to blender can be found here http://www.blender.org/
Blender Is free and open source, so all us hackers can hack it to fit our needs.

I use 3ds max all the time so far it is the best program i have come across for any kind of 3d work. If you really want to learn how to use the program i would suggest going to www.the-area.com it's a site that is run by Autodesk.

I use 3dsMax and I love it. for stills i find Rhinoceros a much better, and clutter free environment. For rendering nothing can beat POV-RAY

Gmax. It's the free (and completely legal) version of 3d Studio Max. Go to http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax. Download it, register, and you can get TONS of models for free, or any price. You can also get models for Maya, 3D studio, and other 3D modeling programs.

Didn't they stop development on GMax though?

From what I've seen XSI has a very nice animation system built in.
Maya and 3dsmax are nice as well, though I use maya more than 3dsmax.

Takes a while to master the Maya one, but when you do it can save you lots of time. (Though the biggest problem is to get skin weighting down properly.)

Coin3D is a good environment, very basic and easy to learn
