Addthis widget causes IE to crash

Code: Select all
<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->
<a class="addthis_button" href="http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?v=250&amp;username=oddbot"><img src="http://s7.addthis.com/static/btn/v2/lg-share-en.gif" width="125" height="16" alt="Bookmark and Share" style="border:0"/></a><script type="text/javascript" src="http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js#username=oddbot"></script>
<!-- AddThis Button END -->

I've added an Addthis Widget to a website I'm creating. I tested whether it works in Firefox, and all went well. But when I tested it in IE it caused my browser to crash.

I've heard that it may be because I'm not currently running it on a server, but instead just running the script from my computer (Don't understand why this would effect it, as javascript doesn't require a server).

Would I have to wait until I publish my website before I add this button, or is there another reason that may be causing this?

No, this is a perfectly acceptable approach and IE sucks.
You could also disable the widget and display a message instead using conditional statements in HTML.
Display a message suggesting any other working alternative <3(FF included)

Hmmm.

I'd appreciate it if you isolated what causes IE to crash, and if it can be reproduced on the latest versions...

;) It's always fun to screw around IE users.

IE does suck, it isn't worth your time when there are several other fantastic browsers out there - Firefox - or if you want something a little less cliché then I don't see why Google Chrome would be a problem. The main point out of this is, just don't use IE. :D

(Especially when you are web designing, half the time, for me at least, it isn't the code that is wrong, it is the browser. Just something to keep in mind.)
