Website Ideas?

I really want to create my own website, but I have not clue what to make it about. I don't want something really difficult, I pretty much just want the experience of creating my own website from scratch. My original idea was to create a online port scanner, but there is already nmap online. The only language I know is python, so I wanted to maybe experiment with php. Any ideas?

It doesn't matter if it's been done a million times, try it your own way anyway is what I say. See if you can do the same thing as Nmap Online, make it different to suit your own tastes, and pimp it out

Alright, I think that's what I will do. What language should a port scanner be written in?

Be careful with an online port scanner, there may be legal concerns. If you're operating in the UK, such a tool is likely to come under the Misuse of Computers Act (due to the June 08 hacktools addition).
I wouldn't be half surprised if the US had similar or worse laws about that kind of thing.
